Recommendations for visiting the winery

SOME ADDRESSES FOR YOUR STAY

We welcome you and thank you for visiting Cámbrico and our spectacular landscape of Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia. We want you to feel at home and enjoy your trip to the fullest, so we have prepared some of the places we frequent.

Meeting Place

First of all, make a note of the meeting place to see our winery: in the square in Villanueva del Conde.

The person who will welcome you is Ambrosio (Bosi).
His telephone number is: +34 652 942 265.

Practical matters

During the visit, try to wear comfortable footwear and a sun hat (and sun cream) for walks through the vineyard, which is almost 900 metres above sea level. There is no better place to take photos and admire the Batuecas Natural Park from within. We provide the drinks, the history, the views and a few surprises.

Accommodation

Before the trip, our recommended accommodation is La Casa de Fita in Sequeros, 3 km from the winery. A house built in the 19th century by the great-great-grandfather of Fernando Maillo, founder of the Cámbrico project.

There are only four rooms, and they exude the architecture and layout of the old mountain house.

Restaurants

What you ask us most often. About our favourite restaurants where you can try some of the most typical dishes, such as lemon and orange salads, zorongollo, meneás potatoes, De Guijuelo and Béjar sausages, or the tasty meats of suckling pig, Salamanca kid or Morucha beef from the pasture. On their wine lists, you can always order one of our Cámbrico wines, all of which are good friends.

La Cantina

In La Alberca, approximately 20 minutes from the winery, is La Cantina, a typical local restaurant serving high-quality meat cooked in its oak wood-fired oven and offering excellent service.

El Molino

Two kilometres from Miranda del Castañar, El Molino Restaurant is a unique spot in the heart of the mountains, an old mill next to the river. In summer, they set up a terrace. You can enjoy simple menus based on patatas menéas (potatoes) or Morucha sirloin steak.

Porta Coeli

Very close to the winery, in San Martin de Castañar, there is a comfortable rural hotel with a restaurant: Porta Coeli. It serves homemade local dishes and has enviable views of the Sierra de Francia mountains.

Mirasierra

In Mogarraz, the Mirasierra Restaurant is an unmissable classic with more than 40 years of a family dedicated to traditional recipes handed down from grandmother. You can try the chícheres con sus avíos (beans), zorongollo, wild boar meatballs, tasty stews, or grilled Morucha beef.

El Pipero

At Los Puentes del Río Alagón, you will find a good restaurant serving home-cooked food and local stews with a summer terrace, covering more than a thousand square metres surrounded by lush nature: El Pipero.

Before or after eating

If you enjoy relaxed walks along trails, follow the GR184 route, one of which starts from Alberca to Villanueva del Conde (4 hours 45 minutes), or from our winery (Villanueva del Conde) to San Esteban de la Sierra, which takes approximately 6 hours.

You will be surprised to discover works of art in nature on the Camino de los Prodigios, an 11-kilometre circular route that passes through Villanueva del Conde and ends in Miranda del Castañar. Get your camera ready because you will see a bed in the middle of nature by Alfredo Omaña, animals in stone by Marcos Rodríguez, and famous quotes to ponder by Félix Curto.

In summer, you can take a dip in one of the five natural pools in the Sierra de Francia. In Villanueva del Conde, one kilometre away and next to the Garcibuey road, you can enjoy the crystal-clear waters that come from the San Benito stream. Surrounded by granite rocks and dreamlike vegetation.

And other interesting facts you will enjoy

  • We are very proud that wine has been made here since Roman times, and you will find many traces of this. You can become an archaeologist if you follow the 13-kilometre wine press route in San Esteban de la Sierra, where you will find stone wine presses such as the well-preserved Muñiquero in the middle of the mountains, and a spectacular Roman gold mine in Les Cavenes (El Cabaco) that has been turned into a museum. Thanks to the work of anthropologist Luis Vicente Elías, an expert in wine folklore, more than 130 have already been found buried in the mountains.
  • If you have a passion for astronomy, our area offers some of the best skies for stargazing. Oscar Martínez, through his company @_startrails, organises three-hour group tours for two or more people. Call him on 676 924 229.
  • Birdwatchers are guaranteed a spectacular show in this Biosphere Reserve, experts in the province. The company Birding in Spain Wild West has magnificent guides and ornithologists: Vega Bermejo and Alfonso Asenjo on tel. 615 594 363.
  • If you visit Garcibuey, you will see an amazing mural surrounded by nature, the Tritón Miguelón, which won first prize for best mural of 2023 from Street Art Cities. It is a graffiti tribute by Madrid artist Sea 162 to the blue, newt-shaped pond that was founded by the local irrigation community.
